Home-based educational interventions for children with asthma.

CONCLUSIONS: We found inconsistent evidence for house-based asthma educational interventions compared to average attention, education delivered outside of the house or a less intensive educational intervention delivered at house. Although education remains a key component of managing asthma in children, advocated in numerous guidelines, this review does not contribute further data on the fundamental content and optimum setting for such educational interventions.

Efficacy in asthma of once-daily treatment with fluticasone furoate: a randomized, placebo-controlled trial

Background:
Fluticasone furoate (FF) is a novel extended-acting inhaled corticosteroid (ICS). This double-blind, placebo-controlled randomized study evaluated the efficacy and safety of FF 200 mcg or 400 mcg once daily, either in the morning or in the evening, and FF 200 mcg twice daily (morning and evening), for 8 weeks in patients with persistent asthma.
Methods:
Asthma patients maintained on ICS for [greater than or equal to]3 months with baseline morning forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) 50-80% of predicted normal value and FEV1 reversibility of [greater than or equal to]12% and [greater than or equal to]200 ml were …

Bronchial asthma Unmasked With Tumor Necrosis Factor–Obstructing Drugs.

We report five cases of bronchial asthma unmasked by anti-tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α-obstructing drugs. Bronchial asthma signs and symptoms made an appearance within typically 4 several weeks (range 1-24 several weeks) after beginning the anti-TNF-α strategy to inflammatory disease. The patients didn't seem to be predisposed to bronchial asthma aside from one patient who had bronchial asthma throughout childhood. Four patients stopped anti-TNF-α-obstructing drugs by having an improvement of signs and symptoms within 1 to five several weeks. Within the patient with past childhood bronchial asthma, respiratory system signs and symptoms recurred when another anti-TNF-α therapy was began. Bronchial …

New kids on the market: the emerging role of apolipoproteins within the pathogenesis and management of bronchial asthma.

Authors: Yao X, Remaley AT, Levine SJ

Abstract

Fresh remedies are essential for patients with severe bronchial asthma. We hypothesized that the scientifically relevant experimental imitation of house dust mite (HDM)-caused murine bronchial asthma could be employed to learn fresh paths that regulate disease severity. In HDM-challenged rodents, genome-wide expression profiling from the asthmatic lung transcriptome recognized apolipoprotein E (apoE) like a steroid-unresponsive gene with regularly upregulated expression despite dexamethasone treatment. ApoE and low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) knockout rodents were utilised to show that apoE, that is created by lung macrophages, functions inside a paracrine fashion by binding …
