Q&A: Is it okay to wear contacts if you have allergies ?

Question by bubbletea62: Is it okay to wear contacts if you have allergies ?
okay, so I have really dark brown eyes, the closest shade to black most likely. And I would like to get colored contacts to brighthen them up a little. However, I have allergies generally to pollen and my eyes do start to water. Would it still be safe to get contacts ?

I wouldn't do it. It could cause complications, and you'd be even more miserable.

I'm sure you'd be OK, I wear contacts but I don't have allergies. Your optician will be able to best advise you on what to do, so book an appointment. I would say though that I wear them cause I have rubbish eyesight, don't put yourself through discomfort just for vanity.

If you have allergies, you should ask your doctor before wear contact lens. But pollen shouldn't be a big deal with lenses, ask your physician anyway.

Some components of the contacts lenses and the liquid to clean and lube them may trigger an allergic reaction.

It is safe to wear contacts with allergies (I wear them) but the only time I take them out is when my eyes are all itchy and red due to allergies...the contacts irritates them even more...but other than that....go ahead and wear them. I too in the past bought color contacts (my eyes are a dark brown like yours) and no matter what kind I got and how much I spent...they still looked fake and the brown peeked through them on the sides...so if I were you...save your money and get use to your brown eyes.

You should consult your eye doctor, but with me, I have the allergies too, but not too bad... I wear contacts, they just have a tendency to get dry, if you itch a lot than contacts aren't good, cuz it'll just enhance the itchyness/irritation... either way you'll need your doctors advice cuz I know my eye has a slight astigmatism and color contacts don't fit, my vision gets blocked partially...

I dont have allergies but I do have contacts. If you do have allergies and you get contacts, it will depend on your symptoms. Usually my eyes water with my contacts when they hurt but with allergies sneezing and eye watering could eritate your eyes and contacts and your contacts might fall out. Talk to your family eye doctor or your family doctor about your situation and talk to him about your allergie symtoms and worries about your condition.

I had the same problem. I had my contact lenses for a month, and then I went to go visit my sister.

my sister is a cat lady, and Im allergic to cats. When I had my contacts in, the only sort of annoying thing that happened was that my eyes watered a little more then they normally would, but that was about it.

I am pretty sure there wouldn't be a problem with you getting contacts even though you have allergies. I still think you should talk to your eye doctor about it, though.
