Macrophage heterogeneity and acute inflammation
by admin on 27. Aug, 2011 in Health
AbstractIn this Point of view, we focus on the facets of macrophage biology that people feel are fundamental to have an appropriate contextual knowledge of macrophage function throughout acute inflammation. Fundamental essentials different roots of macrophage populations (and also the implications of the for that renewal of those populations within the adult) and also the impact of specific homeostatic or disease‐associated microenvironments upon cellular heterogeneity, activation and effector functions. Epigenetic charge of macrophage polarization
by admin on 27. Aug, 2011 in Health
AbstractEpigenetic charge of gene expression is crucial for cellular differentiation and development. Macrophage development, polarization and activation will also be controlled by DNA and histone modifications. This Point of view summarizes the current findings about the role of histone modifications controlling macrophage polarization toward M1 and M2 subtypes. L‐plastin phosphorylation: a novel target for the immunosuppressive drug dexamethasone in primary human T‐cells
by admin on 03. Aug, 2011 in Health
In conclusion, our data introduce costimulation induced L‐plastin phosphorylation as an vital event for immune synapse formation and its inhibition by dexamethasone as a novel mode of function of this immunosuppressive glucocorticoid. ICOS dependent stimulation of NKT cells by marginal zone B cells
by admin on 02. Aug, 2011 in Health
AbstractMarginal zone (MZ) B cells express high amounts of CD1d molecules. In compliance, MZ B cells, like splenic conventional DCs (cDCs), effectively trigger NKT cell proliferation. Importantly, MZ B cells solely caused manufacture of IL‐4 and IL‐13 by such cells whereas cDCs caused robust manufacture of mainly IFN‐γ. NKT cell proliferation, IL‐4 and IL‐13 production caused by MZ B cells were determined by ICOS/ICOSL interaction while IFN‐γ and IL‐17 induction by cDCs needed GITR/GITRL interplay. Our data illustrate that both MZ B cells in addition to cDCs behave as efficient APC for NKT cells and can differentially influence …
