Resource allocation schemes for orthogonal frequency division multiple access- (OFDMA-) based cognitive radio (CR) networks that impose minimum and maximum rate constraints are considered. To demonstrate the practical application of such systems, we consider the transmission of scalable video sequences. An integer programming (IP) formulation of the difficulty is presented, which provides the optimal solution when solved using
common discrete programming methods. Due to the computational complexity involved in such an approach and its unsuitability for dynamic cognitive radio environments, we propose to employ the method of lift-and-project to obtain a stronger formulation for the resource allocation difficulty such that …

Hydrocortisone Therapy For Trauma Patients Associated With Reduced Risk Of Hospital-Acquired Pneumonia
by admin on 23. Mar, 2011 in Health
Patients admitted to a hospital with major trauma and treated with the steroid hydrocortisone were less likely to be diagnosed with hospital-bought pneumonia than patients who received placebo, according to a study in the March 23/30 issue of JAMA. Severe trauma is one of the leading causes of death and illness in the earth. "The overall rate of posttraumatic pneumonia reaches an incidence of 40 percent to 60 percent, mainly in patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI). Early posttraumatic pneumonia increases the duration of mechanical ventilation, hospitalization, and risk of death... (Source: Health News from Medical News Today) More …
Q&A: Will taking Claritan for my allergies make my heart rate increase?
by admin on 19. Mar, 2011 in Allergies
Question by Janet A: Will taking Claritan for my allergies make my heart rate increase?
I have great cardio endurance, so even in my toughest cardio classes my heart rate rarely goes above 162 bpm. Last week my allergies were horrible and I started taking Claritan in the morning. Suddenly my heart rate (in cardio class) was in the 170s. Is it because of the medicine or could it be something else?
Best answer:
Answer by the_only_soloroseantihistamines often increase heart rate and blood pressure.

An MPSoC-Based QAM Modulation Architecture with Run-Time Load-Balancing
by admin on 09. Mar, 2011 in Health
QAM is a widely used multilevel modulation technique, with a variety of applications in data radio communication systems. Most existing implementations of QAM-based systems employ high levels of modulation in order to meet the high data rate constraints of emerging applications. This employment presents the architecture of a highly parallel QAM modulator, using MPSoC-based design flow and design methodology, which offers multirate modulation. The proposed MPSoC architecture is modular and provides dynamic reconfiguration of the QAM utilizing on-chip interconnection networks, offering high data rates (more than 1 Gbps), much at low modulation levels (16-QAM). Furthermore, the proposed QAM implementation integrates a …

Oral health in young adults with long-term, controlled asthma.
by admin on 26. Jan, 2011 in Health
Conclusion. Young adults with extended-term, controlled asthma had more initial caries, more gingival inflammation and a lower stimulated salivary secretion rate than individuals without asthma.

Epidemiology of urticaria: a representative cross‐sectional population survey
by admin on 25. Jan, 2011 in Health
Conclusion. Urticaria is a common disease with marked effects on QOL. The lifetime prevalence of 8.8% for urticaria must be regarded as a lower limit as it is based on conservative prevalence rate calculations, and under‐reporting of previous disease can be expected in a questionnaire‐based study.
